Bowen Therapy

Photo of what is Bowen Therapy?

Bowen therapy is a soft tissue remedial therapy that involves the therapist using fingers or thumbs to move over muscle, ligament, tendon and fascia in various parts of the body.  This sequence of gentle moves, over muscle and soft tissue is interspersed with periods of rest which awakens the body’s resources to auto-regulate, naturally heal and protect itself. Bowen can also be effective to help relieve everyday stresses and also to revitalise the whole person. It is usually carried out over light clothing.

Each Bowen therapy session varies according to the particular problems of the client. By focusing on the lower and mid back and legs, the upper back, shoulders and the neck, a sense of wellbeing can be achieved, helping relaxation, aiding sleep – helping to remove everyday stress and anxiety that can make us feel under-par or prevent us functioning at our optimum.  Some of the reported benefits of Bowen are that it relaxes the muscles, helps to get rid of stress, helps to promote relaxation and may also reduce pain. Click here for more information on Bowen Therapy or see The College of Bowen Studies.
