What is maternity reflexology? It is using my expertise as a reflexology practitioner to support pregnancy & birthing. Reflexology is an ancient natural therapy that uses subtle energies of the feet to bring about balance and harmony. These enable us to attain and maintain health and well-being. Quite simply, everything that happens in the being has a reflection in the feet and everything that happens in the feet is relayed to the person (1).
Pregnancy is a natural condition and while it brings great changes in the body it also brings changes to the emotions and psyche of the mother.
What happens during a treatment?
Your first appointment involves a consultation so you can let me know your medical history. This is carried out in complete privacy, where all personal details remain completely confidential. After that I will comfortably seat you in a reclining chair. I will examine your feet and then begin the precise massage movements to all areas using the side of the thumbs and fingers to apply a firm pressure. It will not hurt and is not ticklish and you should enter a state of great relaxation.
Reflexology continues to establish its reputation and popularity by the effective results people experience. Empiric knowledge and research studies have demonstrated that those receiving regular reflexology during pregnancy have better pregnancies and have shorter birthing with less intervention (2).
Maternity reflexologists aim to optimise the health potential of the pregnant woman. We will give the client reflexology advice. We will not give medical or obstectric advice and we will ensure that a client with problems is in the care of the appropriate Clinical Practitioners
