Qualifications and Experience

After completing a music degree I did the obvious thing and followed my Father into the insurance business!   Although I enjoyed the interaction with my clients I felt drawn to doing something more “hands on” so I decided to retrain as an Aromatherapist at the Revival School of Aromatherapy in Sutton. (A long established school of Aromatherapy approved by what is now the International Federation of Professional Aromatherapists)

I qualified in August 2000 having completed an intensive diploma training course which involved a minimum of 200 hours in-class study, together with an extensive amount of home study and casework.

I began working on a part time basis at Renaissance, eventually giving up my insurance career and becoming a full time therapist.

Around that time it was recommended that I should try a short course of Bowen Therapy. I was very impressed as it helped me with a long term problem with my hip and knees and so I decided to train as a Bowen Therapist with David Howells and Julian Baker at the European College of Bowen Studies. (The ECBS is Europe’s leading Bowen school, providing quality training in The Bowen Technique since 1993, now known CBS) Although it is not such a well-known therapy it is becoming more and more popular and I love practising it and never ceased to be amazed at the results that such a gentle therapy can achieve.

I then qualified as a Thermo-auricular therapist (Hopi Ear Candles), Reiki therapist and did a post graduate qualification in Indian Head Massage. I love the diversity of doing so many therapies although I have always been very careful to get the best qualifications available to ensure that I can offer the very best of care to my clients.

After a couple more years I decided to undertake another diploma in Reflexology with the Bayly School of Reflexology (The Bayly School was officially founded in 1978 by the late Doreen Bayly and was the first Reflexology training school to be established in Great Britain). I love the way that reflexology effects the whole of the body and not just the feet as some might think.

Next came a qualification in Hot Stone Massage which is becoming more and more popular in spas around the country. The combination of massage and smooth hot stones is a wonderful experience that is the ultimate massage experience. I have also completed a course in Pregnancy Massage.

I have been trained at  Penny Price Aromatherapy to administer Holistic Facials which combines an effective massage routine for the face, neck & décolletage with the use of natural products and essential oils. It is becoming very popular with my clients.

More recently I have qualified with Sally Kay at Cinnabar Health to do Reflexology Lymph Drainage. I am very excited about this therapy as it appears to help cancer patients who experience lymphoedema (swelling of the arm) following medical intervention. It may help all kinds of secondary lymphoedema too which is very exciting.

I have also decided to specialise in pregnancy and fertility issues.   I have completed the Maternity Reflexology course enabling me to obtain my Certificate of Competency with Susanne Enzer (a retired midwife and reflexologist). I offer reflexology support for: Antenatal care; Birthing Preparation; Postnatal care and Newborn baby care.

I have also trained to offer Reiki Mama® which is Reiki for expectant Mums. Reiki Mama® was created by Reiki Master Teacher Victoria Weatherer to provide training across the UK in Traditional Usui Reiki with the option of incorporating the Reiki Mama® Method. Victoria created and developed the Reiki Mama® method based on her experience over a number of years of practicing traditional Reiki on increasing numbers of pregnant women.

I am also qualified as a Reproductive Reflexologist.  Reproflexology™ can be used as a stand-alone treatment to enhance your natural fertility or with conventional treatments, such as Clomid, with fully medicated cycles of IUI, IVF, ICSI as well as with donor eggs. I studied with Barbara Scott, considered to be one of Europe’s leading fertility practitioners at Seren Natural Fertility.

Soon after I qualified as an aromatherapist,  I became a partner with Maureen Corbett who originally established Renaissance and then when she moved from Birmingham she allowed me to ‘adopt’ Renaissance. After many years of running Renaissance on my own, I have passed on the baton to my friend and colleague leaving me free to concentrate on my therapies.
